Wellbore Stability and Predicted Cuttings Volume in Deviated Wells and Bedded Formations

Rock Mechanics / Geomechanics Symposium Presentation

Rockfield had the honour of presenting at the 54th Rock Mechanics / Geomechanics Symposium in a virtual setting. This presentation has a snapshot of the capabilities contained within the Elfen wellbore software module and includes Well inclination, strain softening and anisotropy within the field of excavation.

Similar to mining and tunnelling industries, the oil and gas industry has long acknowledged that instability of subsurface excavations can pose serious problems affecting the timing, risk management and economics of a project.  With the oil and gas industry exploring reservoirs under increasingly difficult geological conditions and with complex recovery techniques becoming standard, wellbore stability analysis needs to reflect these challenging environments and account for difficult geological conditions, such as drilling in depleted formations, highly deviated wells or laminated formations.
